When asked to "Interpret Shakespeare" for the purpose of a touring exhibition, I immediately gathered up every paperback play in my possession, piled them on my nightstand, and over a period of months reread or skimmed these often moldy little gems, one by one. I read the tragedies, the comedies, the sonnets, and they all served to remind me of the Bard's prolific genius for entertainment. What most stood out for me, however, was Shakespeare's fabulous sense of humor, as well as his sly hilarity with a pun. In the end, I wanted to create something that Shakespeare himself might think was entertaining, in homage to this spirit.
