Masked
Masked
etching with chine collé
6 x 4 inches
2017

This print was inspired by a long distance collaboration with my son, the Playwright/Director Evan Silver, who adapted the folk tale of "The Heron and the Fish" as a contemporary mystical dance play, which was performed at the Purnati Center for the Arts in Bali, and also at the Agung Rai Museum of Art. When we visited Evan in SE Asia in early 2017, he talked about this seed of an idea that was to become the Heron and the Fish, and my own work started to mirror some of the visual elements of his play. I was quite taken by the frightening and beautiful heron mask Evan carved for his one of his lead dancers, which of course then makes an appearance in many of my own prints.

This is a variable edition. The dancer's "skirt" or sarong, is collaged with a different colored or patterned rice paper in each print.
