Mom had open heart surgery, and this is what I made in the waiting room of Northwestern Hospital. Trying to channel fear into humor, I was astounded by all those tubes that seemingly led to nowhere like the vast bundles of wires in the alley. I imagined that the bags hanging above her bed included some of her favorite things like chocolate milkshakes and mocha lattes. She made a full recovery.
