I'm just not exactly sure why the boy’s hair turns into antlers after offering itself as the sea's garden for this school of fish, but with reflection, these images and objects are derived from both dreams and life, brought to light by ink and endless hours of hard work. The fact that the figure can sever its connection with one snip of the scissor seems to address my current obsession with ideas about fragility - the fragility of our relationships, our faculties, and of our senses. That, and the heartbreaking reality of having to watch as my younger son loses his sight, is most definitely the underlying impetus for this piece.
